Hike Begins at Boca de Tomatlan
To start your hike in Boca de Tomatlan, you can drive or take public transportation such as a bus, taxi or uber along the 200 highway to reach the quaint and tranquil coastal town of Boca de Tomatlan. Boca de Tomatlan was formerly a quaint fishing village. In recent years, it has become a tourist hot spot due to its beautiful beaches and relaxed vibe. If you have a car, you can park at the bottom of the hill near the water in the free parking lot. Make sure to wear sunscreen and bring along a hat and water for your hike. Don’t forget your swimsuit so you can take a dip in the ocean after you finish your hike. You can also bring along bug repellant to avoid getting bitten by insects, too. It is also a good idea to carry some cash with you so you can enjoy a cold drink or lunch at one of the beachside restaurants in Las Animas or Quimixto after your hike.
Amazing Views Along Hiking Path
You first need to head across the river’s hanging bridge to begin the hike. The hanging bridge is located close to the parking area. After crossing the river, take a right and climb up the stairs. You will make your way along the path as you pass humble homes, shady trees and wildlife. You may see native birds, iguanas, and chickens and roosters on your way. Keep following the path and carefully walk as some of the paths can have difficult footing. Bring along your camera as you will see amazing ocean views during your hike. If you want an extra challenging workout, try running along the path instead of hiking. As you continue hiking or running south along the ocean’s edge, you will reach the Ocean Grill restaurant. If you plan ahead, you can make a reservation to enjoy lunch in paradise. After you pass Ocean Grill, follow the path down to the small beach known as Playa Colomitos which is next to the restaurant. There, you cross the sandy beach and take a step up along the rocks to continue on the trail. Look for a sign that says “Cuida Tu Madre,” which means “Take care of Mother Earth” in English which means that you are heading in the right direction.
Las Animas and Quimixto Coastal Villages
As you enjoy one of the best outdoor activities in PV as you like, you will notice a few small villas, yoga retreats, and boutique hotels along the way.
